What rights do I have?

You may be entitled to compensation if your flight is cancelled or delayed by three hours or more upon arrival at your final destination.

Exception

You are not entitled to compensation if the cancellation or delay is due to extraordinary circumstances such as bad weather, certain types of strikes, manufacturing defects, or air traffic control restrictions.

You may be entitled to the following:

If the airline did not offer you catering (food and drinks – non-alcoholic) during the waiting time, you are entitled to have your reasonable catering expenses refunded.

You can also be refunded for reasonable expenses for hotel accommodation and transport to/from the hotel if it was necessary due to the delay.

To receive a refund for your expenses, you must provide documentation for your purchases.

Any catering expenses must have been incurred after the original departure time.

You may not be entitled to the following:

The airline is not obligated to refund consequential expenses, such as missed hotel accommodations at your destination, unused rental cars, holiday homes, and other tourism-related services or consequential damages.

As a general rule, the airline must issue your refund within seven days. You can file a complaint with the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority if the airline has not responded to your request within six weeks.

Yes, a child under two years old is entitled to compensation on the same terms as other passengers, regardless of the ticket price paid for the child. The key factor is that a price was paid for the ticket, and it was not free.

When filing a complaint, you should be aware of whether your flight tickets were purchased as a group booking. Even if, for example, you bought the outbound and return flights in the same transaction, the purchase may sometimes still consist of two separate bookings.

When the authority receives your complaint, they will look at where the flight tickets were purchased. If the purchase was made directly with an airline, the tickets will generally be considered a group booking.

However, if the flight tickets were purchased through a ticket provider, it is most often not considered a group booking. This is because ticket providers typically assemble your trip by purchasing individual tickets from the airlines, which can be from the same airline or different airlines.

If you bought the flight tickets through a package travel provider, the authority will generally consider the tickets as a group booking. However, there may be certain exceptions, in which case you will be contacted.
